RCI is responsive to the cultural, racial, and ethnic differences of the populations within the frontier and rural communities of West Texas. We serve by building off the strengths and close net relationships of families. Through affirming and strengthening families' cultural, racial, and linguistic identities RCI will help enhance their ability to function in a multi-cultural society.

Interpreter Program One of our goals is to partner with child serving agencies to help provide services in culturally and linguistically appropriate forms. Through training by NLBHA-National Latino Behavioral Health Association RCI was able to offer Mental Health Interpreting Training to various social service agencies.

Provisions related to language access
Service providers should implement policies and procedures to provide access to services and information in appropriate languages other than English to ensure that persons with limited English proficiency and persons with hearing impairment are effectively informed and effectively participate in any benefit.
How to access an Interpreter
The following procedures are important to follow to ensure availability.
All requests for interpreting and translating services must be made via email or phone call as far in advance as possible (more than 2 business days for individual requests).
All requests must include the following information:
• Date, begin time, duration or end time, location, event type, number of participants(see Interpreter/Translator Request Form)
• Brief explanation of meeting purpose (this is essential in determining if more than one interpreter may be necessary)
Last minute requests (with 2 or less days notice) should be called to Jose Serrano at (806)-291-0388 followed by email.
**Every possible effort will be made to cover these requests with the understanding that interpreting or translation services may not always be available to meet last minute requests.
**All requests are subject to approval by RCI. Your interpreting needs may not be covered without an official request.
After-Hours
RCI recommends using telephone interpretation when there is no qualified interpreter is available. You have the right for the agency from whom you are requesting assistance to provide you with this service if they are federally funded.
Changes in Schedules
There may be times that an interpreters schedule may change or may need a substitute (i.e., vacation). You will be notified via email when this may happen. If an interpreter is ill the day of the assignment you will be contacted via email and a phone call as soon as possible. If you would like to provide a phone number as another way of reaching you for last minute changes or cancellations, please provide information during email/phone request or on your request form.
